Besan Toast

Ingredients:

  • Ingredients for both methods (half ingredients are used in first method and half in the next one)
  • 8 Bread slices
  • 2 cup besan/gram flour (divided)
  • 1 medium size onion finely chopped (divided)
  • 1/2 Capsicum finely chopped (divided)
  • 2 Green chili finely chopped (divided)
  • 1 tomato finely chopped (divided)
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1/4 tsp carom seeds (divided)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric (divided)
  • 1 tsp kashmiri red chili powder (divided)
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds (divided)
  • 2 Cheese slices
  • Coriander mint chutney as required
  • Tomato ketchup as required
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • Finely chopped fresh coriander

Method:

  • First Way
    • Take besan in a large bowl.
    • Add water to it in batches and keep stirring with a whisk to avoid any lumps.
    • I used 2-3 tbsp less than a cup of water
    • Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, carom seeds and cumin seeds and mix well.
    • Now add the finely chopped onion, tomato, capsicum and green chili.
    • add pinch of aesofotida.
    • add chopped coriander.
    • Mix everything well.
    • Take a bread slice and place it on a hot pan.
    • Spread the besan and vegetables mixture on the bread using a spoon and apply 1/2tsp oil on it. Flip the bread and spread the besan mixture on the other side of the bread also.
    • Cook on both the sides pressing gently with a spatula.
    • Cut the bread in triangle shape and serve.

  • Second Way
    • Follow the same steps as above to make the besan and veggie mixture.
    • Make the mixture little runny by adding more water.
    • I used 1 cup water for this.
    • Take one bread slice and spread coriander mint chutney on it.
    • Take another slice and spread the tomato ketchup on it.
    • Place a cheese slice in between the breads.
    • Cut the sandwich in triangle shape and place it in the bowl of besan and vegetables mixture.
    • Coat the triangle completely with the mixture using a spoon.
    • Now with the help of a tong(you can even use your hands)pick up the slice and place it on hot pan.
    • Let it cook for 2-3 minutes and then flip to cook on the other side as well.
    • Now with the help of a tong cook the sides also (refer to the video)
    • Serve with tomato ketchup and coriander mint chutney.
