Samak (Samo Rice) Kheer

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (100 grams) samak rice/moriyo/samo rice
  • 1 liter full fat milk
  • 6 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp chopped dry fruits
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 7-8 saffron strands soaked in 2 tbsp milk

Method:

  • Wash and soak the samak rice for 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile add 1 liter of full fat milk in thick bottomed pan and bring it to boil stirring at intervals.
  • Once the milk is boiled add the soaked samak rice and stir at intervals
  • Add the saffron milk
  • After 10 minutes add chopped dry fruits and mix.
  • When the samak is cooked check by smashing it between your fingers. If it is getting mashed then add sugar. Otherwise stir for another 5 minutes.
  • Now add the cardmom powder and stir.
  • Garnish with more dryfruits and serve.
  • Samak kheer tastes great when chilled.
