Homemade Chai Masala (चाय का मसाला)

    Description: Chai ka Masala - the secret Ingredient behind the flavorful and aromatic Masala Chai. It is a simple and easy to make at home.
Chai ka Masala is a blend of dry roasted spices like Cinnamon, Cardamom, Fennel seeds ,etc. This masala can be easily stored in an airtight container and used every time you make masala chai.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tbsp Green Cardamom (हरी इलायची) (30 grams)
  • 2 tbsp Black peppercorns (काली मिर्च) (20 grams)
  • 8 grams Cinnamon sticks (दालचीनी)
  • 1/2 piece Nutmeg (जायफल)
  • 3 tbsp Cloves (लौंग) (15 grams)
  • 1 tbsp Fennel seeds (सौफ़) (10 grams)
  • 1 piece Black Cardamom (बड़ी इलायची) 
  • 3 tbsp Dry Ginger Powder (सोंठ) (25 grams)

Method:

  • Heat a pan on low flame and add the above mentioned spices except the dry ginger powder to the pan.
  • Dry Roast for 3-4 minutes on low flame .
  • When the spices turn aromatic  remove from heat and let them cool.
  • Remove the nutmeg and black cardamom and crush them in a mortar pestle separately before adding to the grinder.
  • Once the spices are cool grind them with the crushed nutmeg and black Cardamom in a grinder.
  • You do not need to make it to a fine powder.
  • Once done add the dry ginger powder and mix well.
  • Your chai masala is ready to be added to tea.

Usage:

  • Take 1 1/4 cup water and boil it.
  • Add 2 tsp Tea leaves (depends on how strong you prefer)
  • Add 2 tsp sugar (adjust according to taste)
  • Add 1/2 tsp chai masala for 2 cups of tea.
  • Add 1 1/4 cup full cream milk.
  • Let it boil.
  • Strain and enjoy hot tea with homemade masala.
