Ingredients:

  • 150 grams Chana Dal OR 1 Cup powdered dalia/roasted chana
  • 1/2 cup Ghee
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • Pinch of Cardamom powder

Method:

  • If using Chana dal, dry roast it in a pan till it becomes crispy. It took me 1/2 hour on low to medium flame stirring continuously.
  • Grind it to make a powder.
  • Now, add the powdered sugar and cardamom powder and mix well using your hands.
  • Add the melted ghee little by little to form a soft dough as shown in the picture.
  • Make small peda's out of the mixture and garnish with pistachios and rose petals.
  • You can use your creativity to make the design or leave it plain.
  • Here I have used the frying spoon to make the design. (see the picture)

Handy Tips:

  • If you don't have much time then using the roasted chana is a good option but the sattu made with roasting and powdering chana dal tastes better.
  • Take care to not add all ghee at the same time, since when you add ghee the sugar dissolves and makes the mixture runny.
  • Do the taste test to get the desired sweetness.
