Baked Katori Chaat

Ingredients:

  • Ingredients for katori
    • 1 cup all purpose flour
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tbsp oil
    • 1 tbsp ghee/butter
    • Salt as per taste
    • 1/2 tbsp semolina
  • Ingredients for chaat
    • 1/2 cup boiled Black gram
    • 1 onion finely chopped
    • 1 tomato  finely chopped
    • 2 boiled and cubed potatoes
    • 3 tbsp fresh coriander
    • 1/4 cup yogurt
    • Tamarind chutney as required
    • Mint chutney as required
    • 1 tbsp chaat masala
    • Black salt as required
    • Sev(namkeen)as required
    • Red chili powder as required

Method:

  • To BAKE KATORI
    • Take a large bowl and add flour, salt, baking powder, oil, butter and semolina and mix to combine.
    • Now add water to make a tight dough like mathri. (not too stiff and not too soft)
    • Let the dough rest for 15 minutes.
    • Now pinch equal quantities of dough to make them into balls.
    • Roll each ball .
    • Take a muffin tray and turn it upside down.
    • Grease the back and cover with rolled dough. (refer to the picture)
    • Prick using a fork so katori's don't swell up.
    • If you do not have muffin tray you can even use cupcake liners. Just make sure to take 2 together so it stays sturdy. (refer picture)
    • Bake the katori's in a preheated oven at 200 C for 20 mins or until you see the katori's turn brown.
  • Assembling
    • Take all katoris and add the boiled potatoes in each one.
    • Add the boiled black gram, yogurt,  chopped onion, chopped tomatoes  black salt, tamarind and mint chutneys.
    • Top it up with chopped fresh coriander and sev (namkeen).

Notes:

  • The temperature in every oven varies so make sure to check katori's after 15 minutes.
  • The toppings can be added or removed as per liking.
  • The spice content can be increased with the use of red chili powder.
