Ingredients:
- 250 grams All purpose flour (approx 1 3/4 cup)
- 180 grams room temperature unsalted Butter
- 100 grams Powdered sugar (varies according to taste)+ 2 tsp
- 4 tbsp Cornstarch
- 2 tbsp Milk+ 2 tbsp
- 1 tsp Vanilla essence
- 30 gms cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt (skip if using salted butter)
Method:
- Beat the butter and sugar using a hand blender/whisk till it turns pale and creamy.
- Add the vanilla essence
- Place a sieve over the butter sugar mixture bowl.
- Add the dry ingredients(flour, corn starch and salt) to the butter sugar mixture in batches.
- Combine the dough using a spatula and then use hands. Do not knead just bring the mixture together to form a dough.
- Add milk as needed.
- Adjust the the consistency of the the dough by adding more flour or milk (starting with 1/2 tsp of milk at a time).
- The dough should not stick to your hands and neither should it be crumbly.
- Divide the dough into 2 parts:
- Take cocoa powder in a bowl and mix 1-2 tbsp milk in it to form a thick paste.
- Take one of the dough ball and add the cocoa paste.
- Combine gently to form the chocolate dough. Do not knead otherwise the cookies will spread while baking.
- Now take each dough one by one and put it between two parchment papers and roll it using a rolling pin into 4-5 mm thickness.
- Place the rolled dough as it is in the refrigerator for at-least half hour.
- Take the plain dough out of the refrigerator and cut into hearts using a heart shaped cookie cutter.
- Take the chocolate dough and cut in heart shape using a medium size cutter (ears of puppy)and cut some hearts using the small size cookie cutter (nose of puppy)
- Now, place a parchment on a baking tray.
- Take the plain dough heart and place it on the baking tray upside down.
- Now take the big chocolate heart and cut it into 2 parts (watch video for clarity) and place it on the sides of the plain dough heart as ears (watch video for clarity)press gently.
- Place the little heart as nose of the puppy.
- Take little chocolate dough and make balls for eyes of the puppy, press gently .
- Make all the other puppy cookies as mentioned above.
- Place the cookies in the refrigerator for another half hour.
- After that bake them in a preheated oven at 170C for 15 minutes or until the sides start turning golden brown.
- Let the cookies cool on a wire rack.
